Story of my soul-food and how you also can try it out

My family and closest friends know the story too well.

But few friends tend to miss it, the picture shown below is exactly the most favorite ‘Roti’.

I will assist on a quick guide on what you could try if you travel to this part of the world (Sri Lanka) or if you dare to cook at home and try it yourself.

The home made Pol-Roti, as it is called in Sri Lanka is the best. The best chef I know cooked it to me first, my mom, and I love everything about it ever since.

And the taste buds do not tingle any better than with a katta sambal, an authentic combination of Maldive fish, green chilli and onions, sprinkled with lime and few spices.

And few spoonsful of dhal curry,

The sight makes me want to satisfy my craving — Oh goodness!

This is just a start though, towards my ‘great voyage’ for my usual meal with a stomach full of Pol Roti and the escort of curries.

This section is only for serious buyers!

Two cook yourself an authentic Sri Lankan dhal curry, two Pol Roti and prepare a katta sambal should not take more than a good 45 minutes, because that is how much time my mom would take to cook all of that with a beef or a mutton curry.

Even if you are a novice, an hour should top to cook everything, minus the beef or mutton curry.

Show above is how my beef or mutton curry would exactly look like.

The right amount of spices beat the heat!

So the equation is simple,

Soul Food = Pol Roti + Katta Sambal + Dhal Curry + Beef/ Mutton curry

To make it simple, in terms of a breakdown in time,

Soul Food = 25 mins + 10 mins + 15 mins + 20 mins

= 70 mins

Currently in Sri Lanka, a trend is seen to try out a Pol Roti, Katta Sambal and a Pork Curry. All for a little more than $1 just by the side of the road in a selected number of cities.

Even if you qualify to bring the dish to something as below is a clear win,

For all of my 25 years, I have tasted food from different countries across different continents, trying out different restaurants and hotels, but this simple meal beats it all.

Give it a search on Google for the recipe and try this amazing combination.

If only a beverage is what is missing, grab a King Coconut and sip it down — Nothing is more Sri Lankan.
